Our Team
Visilant is a commercial-stage social enterprise founded by a multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists, biomedical engineers, computer scientists, and social entrepreneurs. Our mission is to eliminate avoidable vision loss globally by enabling equitable access to high quality eye screening and care. We partner with high volume, charitable eye hospitals in LMICs to develop, validate, and deploy comprehensive digital health tools designed for patients, providers, and eye care systems low-resource settings.

Jordan is a biomedical engineer and computer scientist dedicated to building digital health products that democratize healthcare access. Jordan earned her MSE in Bioengineering Innovation and Design from Johns Hopkins University and her MS in Computer Science, with a concentration in Health Informatics, from Boston University. With seven years of experience leading global health projects, she is passionate about using technology to create scalable solutions that improve health outcomes in underserved communities.

Nakul is an eye surgeon and epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins University. He has nearly 20 years of experience with direct humanitarian care, field research, education, and on-the-ground program implementation in low- and middle-income countries. His research has been recognized by grants from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Research to Prevent Blindness, and National Eye Institute. Nakul received his M.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and his M.P.H. degree in epidemiology and biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed ophthalmology residency at Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan where he received the Resident Excellence Award from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He completed additional subspecialty training in cornea, anterior segment, and refractive surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University where he was awarded the prestigious Claes Dohlman Award from Harvard Medical School recognizing the most outstanding young cornea specialist in the country.

Kunal is a serial inventor and entrepreneur on a mission to alleviate human suffering at scale. He has worked with the world’s largest eye care systems to create and commercialize novel healthcare technologies designed to address the most critical eye care needs in LMICs. He previously founded the Global Institute for Vision Equity and serves as a member of the Technology Access Taskforce of the International Association for the Prevention of Blindness. Kunal is also an active healthcare investor who has advised dozens of social impact companies and previously founded, led, and raised funding for diagnostics, medical device, and therapeutics companies. He earned his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at The Johns Hopkins University and bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at The Ohio State University.
